 ABSTRACT (en)

This paper describes a newly established research infrastructure for diachronic research in Czech. To address the fragmentary state of Czech historical resources and to provide a unified infrastruc ture for longitudinal analysis, the HiČKoK project (History of Czech in a Corpus Continuum) has created the Monitor corpus of Czech (MCC). Covering the entire written history of Czech from the 13th to the 21st century, MCC comprises over 93 million tokens drawn from more than 5,400 docu ments, uniformly annotated according to the Universal Dependencies (UD) scheme. In parallel, the project developed Timeline, a four-module web application designed for diachronic inquiry. The tool allows (1) visualisation of single-phenomenon frequency trends, (2) comparative plotting of competing variants, (3) correlation analysis of co-evolving phenomena, and (4) diachronic colloca tion profiling to detect semantic shift. Three case studies showcase the use of this infrastructure: (i) the gradual replacement of the dative pronoun jemu by the clitic mu, (ii) the systematic decline of the simple past (imperfect) in favor of periphrastic constructions and (iii) the evolution of sentence length across literary and non-fiction genres.
